Ford Street Rod Info
Is it a Ford Street Rod or a Ford Hot Rod?
Ford Hot Rod or a Ford Street Rod? Depends on who you are talking to, so it seems. Generally speaking the term "hot rod" refers to a cars that were built using mostly original old parts, and seek the styles of the 1930's thru the 1960's. Street Rods on the other hand are built using mostly new and reproduction parts.
Or in the immortal words of Fred Offenhauser...."There are street rods and there are hot rods. Street rods have a Chevy up front and a can of wax in the back. Hot rods have a flathead up front and tools in the back."
Which ever it is, Street Rod, or Hot Rod, Ford has been the most popular make to turn to when building one. In the early stages of the hot rod hobby, an easy reason for selecting a Ford, was simply because their were so many of them choose from. When the hobby really took hold after Word War II, there were literally millions of old Model T Fords, Model A Fords, and early V8 Fords available to hot rodders and street rodders alike.
One of the most popular Fords ever for rodding is the 32 Ford Duece. The Ford Duece coupe immortalized in film and recordings, is a slang term for year of it was introduced ,as in the 1932 Ford. The "flathead" V8 motor that Henry Ford introduced with his 1932 Model B, became a popular choice for hot rodders in the Forties and Fifties. The combination of the "lightweight" 1932 Ford frame, and the flathead V8 was a magic combination for building a Hot Rod Ford. It's amazing that a 1932 Ford Roadster that sold new for less than $500.00 in 1932, today can go for well over $90,000. On the deuce 's 75th year anniversary the 1932 Ford was honored by Ford Motor Company when they commisioned a panel of hot rod experts to make a list of the 75 most Influential 32 Hot Rod Fords of all time. This evolved into a display at the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, California, January 2007.
Today thanks to the ever lasting popularity of the 1932 Ford, you can build a complete roadster or coupe from the frame up, using entirely reproduction parts. The "Deuce".... The amazing, 1932 Ford is responsible more than any other car ever built for the $31 Billion Dollar aftermarket industry that exists today.
