1965 Ford Mustang Convertible The Old Ford Mustang, Fun Facts and Figures....

The Ford Mustang was born in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964, and was formally introduced at the World's Fair in New York a month later. A month after that the new Mustang was presented as the pace car at the 1964 Indianapolis 500.

The Mustang name was selected by one of the Ford stylists' who happened to be an avid fan of WWII airplanes, the "P51 Mustang," in particular.

Lots of old pony cars have regained public interest recently, but The old Ford Mustang is the only original pony car that has stayed in production with no interruptions since it's inception. That fact is really significant when you consider that even the most cherished, most rare Mustang ever built, was assembled on a moving assembly line by the same workers who produced the Ford Falcon's, Fairlanes, and Galaxies.

The Ford Mustang has become an American staple, creating over four decades of driving excitement world wide. In the first abbreviated production year, the 1964 1/2 Mustang sold over 125,000 cars, with the V8 motors outselling the six cylinder motors three to one. In it's second year of production the 1965 Ford Mustang sold over 400,000 units! To the surprise of Ford, the 1966 Ford Mustangs outsold the 1965 models, with an unbelievable total of over 600,000 cars..

Soon these classic old Mustangs became so popular that they just had to enter the race circuit, so...enter the "Shelby Mustang." Carroll Shelby was the man who was destined to be the one to put the Chevy Corvette in its place, with another two seater race car. And thus the Shelby Mustang 350 was born, another classic Mustang that would last into 1970.

All in all these old Ford Mustangs, representing 1964, 1965, and 1966 represent the true classic Mustangs we all remember, and cherish.

Our Feature Car, the 1967 Ford Mustang

1967 Ford Mustang AutomobilesAll the sudden it was 1967, and the Mustang finally had some serious competition. Chevy had their new Camaro, Chrysler had a Barracuda, Pontiac a Firebird, and from its own family, Mercury introduced the Cougar.

Ford countered with the new larger, more powerful 1967 Mustang, and accentuated all of the styling features that the previous Mustangs had become known for. A new option was the 390 cubic inch "big block" V8 motor putting out 315 HP with the four barrel carburetor. The "pony interiors" were discarded, and new upgraded interior packages were presented to the 1967 Ford Mustang buyers.

The 1967 Mustang year, also introduced new Shelby Mustang models, the Shelby GT350, and the Shelby GT500. The Shelby Mustang 350GT was the first car with a factory installed roll bar. The Shelby GT500, one of the most collectible of all Mustangs, came with a huge 428 cubic inch motor.

But despite all of the new pony car competition on the field, the 1967 Ford Mustang still managed to sell almost a half million copies, in coupe, convertible, and fastback body styles..
